THE GODFATHER OF OUR KING

the 1982 Rose of the Year, Mountbatten is a floribunda rose that was named in memory of the great uncle and godfather of King Charles the Third, Earl Mountbatten, who was assassinated by the IRA in 1979.

A stylish rose, that grows to about 120cm by 70cm, it was bred by Harkness by using the seed of Peer Gynt with the pollen of (Anne Cocker x Arthur Bell) x Southampton.


Born at Frogmore House, Windsor on June 25th, 1900, Albert Victor Nicholas Louis Francis Mountbatten, who became the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, was the material uncle of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, and was a naval officer who became the last Viceroy of India.
